Visita guiada del Planters’ Hospital

Durant aquests últims dies hem estat recollint molta informació per tenir una visió global i alhora detallada de les necessitats de l´hospital que requereixen la nostra col·laboració.

La primera sensació en veure l’edifici ja va ser un impacte visual degut al seu estat deteriorat en tots els seus aspectes. Les parets plenes de taques d’humitat, els sostres amb goteres i vidres trencats i els sanitaris que funcionen (dues terceres parts del total) es troben en molt mal estat ja que les dues fosses sèptiques vessen sovint i fan molt mala olor.

Les deixalles les dipositen sense bosses ni classificacions en un forat a l’aire lliure situat al darrere de l´hospital de manera totalment antihigiènica (hi ha gossos abandonats que hi busquen aliment i fins i tot hi dormen).

Gràcies als coneixements professionals sanitaris (farmacèutica i infermera) de dos dels membres de SOSDarjeeling, hem fet una valoració més acurada de la farmàcia, el quiròfan i la planta. A la farmàcia necessiten un programa informàtic per millorar les precàries condicions actuals d’estocatge. També els hi hem proposat un formulari per reduir la feina entre les infermeres i els farmacèutics, millorant la seva intercomunicació. Ja hem assistit a tres operacions al quiròfan que ens han servit per observar com treballen i les carències que tenen. Hi ha una manca important d’aparells bàsics, com un monitor, un carro d’aturades, etc.

Malgrat el dèficit d’equipament i d’infraestructura, el personal del Planters’ Hospital té molt mèrit ja que són capaços de treballar en aquestes condicions i amb pocs recursos fan la seva feina el millor possible.

Durante estos últimos días hemos recogido mucha información para tener una visión global y al mismo tiempo detallada de las necesidades del hospital que requieren de nuestra colaboración.

La primera sensación en ver el edificio ya fue un impacto visual debido a su estado deteriorado en todos sus aspectos. Las paredes llenas de manchas de humedad, los techos con goteras, los cristales rotos y los sanitarios que funcionan (dos terceras partes del total) se encuentran en muy malo estado ya que las dos fosas sépticas sobresalen a menudo y hacen muy mal olor.

Los desperdicios se depositan sin bolsas ni clasificaciones en un agujero al aire libre situado detrás del hospital de manera totalmente antihigiénica (hay perros abandonados que buscan alimento e incluso duermen allí).

Gracias a los conocimientos profesionales sanitarios (farmacéutica y enfermera) de dos de los miembros de SOSDarjeeling, hemos hecho una valoración más esmerada de la farmacia, el quirófano y la planta. En la farmacia necesitan un programa informático para mejorar las precarias condiciones actuales de stock. También les hemos propuesto un formulario para reducir el trabajo entre las enfermeras y los farmacéuticos, mejorando su intercomunicación. Ya hemos asistido a tres operaciones en el quirófano que nos han servido para observar cómo trabajan y las carencias que tienen. Hay una falta importante de aparatos básicos, como son un monitor, un carro de paros, etc.

A pesar del déficit de equipamiento y de infraestructura, el personal del Planters' Hospital tiene mucho mérito ya que son capaces de trabajar en estas condiciones y con pocos recursos hacen su trabajo lo mejor posible.

These last days we have been gathering a lot of information in order to have a much more global and at the same time detailed vision of the needs of the hospital that may require our collaboration.

The first sensation when observing the building had a huge impact due to its general deteriorated state. Walls full of humidity stains, leaks on the ceilings, windows with broken glasses and the toilets that are not out of order (two thirds of the total) are in a very bad condition due to both septic tanks leaking often and creating a very smelly environment.

The medical wastes and general rubbish are left without bags nor classifications in a hole in the free air placed behind the hospital in a totally unhygienic way (there are abandoned dogs that search for food and they even sleep there).

Thanks to the professional knowledge on health systems (chemist and nurse) of two SOSDarjeeling members, we have made a more accurate appraisal of the pharmacy, the operating room and the floor. In the pharmacy they need a computer program to improve the precarious current conditions of their storing and stocking system. Also we have proposed them a form in order to reduce the work load between the nurses and the chemists, improving their intercommunication. We have already been at three operations in the operating room which we have used to observe how they work and what are they lacking the most. There is an important lack of basic devices, like a monitor, a cart for systemic failures, etc.

In spite of the deficit of equipment and infrastructure, the Planters’ Hospital staff has a lot of merit since they are capable of working in these conditions and with few resources they achieve the best possible result.
